Car hire complaints on the increase Complaints and enquiries about car hire in the EU rose by almost 30% in the year to the end of June 2017. This is according to the UK European Consumer Centre (UK ECC). There were 629 complaints and enquiries compared to 486 the year before. Changes to library opening times in Central Beds

Library opening times to include Saturdays Central Bedfordshire Council will increase library opening times across its 12 libraries. This includes a Saturday afternoon service. The changes come after consulting with customers and listening to their feedback. Last year, the council looked at reducing opening by a total of 30 hours per week to meet a £85,000 efficiency target. This target is now £56,000, which has meant that longer opening times are possible. Cash machine stolen in ram raid at Cranfield Cooperative

Bedfordshire Police is investigating a ram raid at the Coop store in Cranfield. A member of the public called to report damage to the front of the store at around 1.40am Friday, 4 August. Officers attended the store within 10 minutes and discovered a cash machine had been stolen. The break-in caused extensive damage to the front of the store. A four-by-four vehicle was abandoned at the scene.   An investigation into the incident has been launched. The Post Office, which is part of the store, will also be closed until further notice. Middle school expansion agreed

30 new school places for expanding village Cranfield’s Holywell CofE Middle School will have extra pupils from next year.   The Central Bedfordshire Council Executive approved plans to create an extra 120 places.   This will take the academy from a five-form entry to six-form entry school in September 2018.   This comes after a consultation carried out by the school during April/May.   Of the 180 responses received, 90 per cent were in favour of expanding the school by one form of entry.   The start of work is now subject to a planning application.
